World Tourism Day - 2025 celebrated in Kilinochchi in a grand scale

In celebration of World Tourism Day, the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, in collaboration with the District Secretariat – Kilinochchi, successfully organized a two-day programme in Kilinochchi on 06th and 07th October 2025. The inaugural day commenced with a vibrant cultural procession, which began at the Old Kachcheri premises and concluded at Green Park, Kilinochchi. The cultural procession was led by the Chairman of the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, Mr.A.Pathinathan. The procession featured a variety of cultural and traditional performances, showcasing the rich heritage and artistic talent of the region.

Following the welcome address delivered by Mrs. P. Jasothara, Director of the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, a series of cultural performances were staged. The programme was graced by several distinguished guests, including Mr. S. Muralitharan, District Secretary – Kilinochchi, as the Chief Guest; Hon. Mr. A. Velamalikithan, Chairman of the Karaichchi Pradeshiya Sabha, as the Guest of Honour; and Mrs. N. Inparaj, Additional District Secretary, Mr. S. Mohanabavan, Director of Planning, Mr. T. Muhunthan, Divisional Secretary – Karaichchi, and Mr. V. Aayakulan, Divisional Secretary – Poonakary, as special guests.

A large gathering of visitors attended the programme on both days. To cater to the attendees, several food stalls, souvenir stalls, and stalls showcasing local products were set up, offering a vibrant and engaging experience for all.
