This visit has given us many unforgettable experiences, and we will certainly encourage our friends, relatives, and others to come and explore this wonderful destination. We firmly believe that the Northern Province has the potential to reach even greater heights in the tourism sector,” said the enthusiastic bicycle tour group that visited Jaffna from five states of India.

A felicitation ceremony for the ‘Team Bison’ bicycle tour group, who arrived from India with the aim of further strengthening the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and India and promoting the tourism sector in the Northern Province, was held on Saturday night 04 April 2026, at the Valampuri Hotel, Jaffna, under the Chairmanship of Dr. J. Vivekananthan, Chairman of the Northern Provincial Tourism Bureau.

The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, who attended the event as the Chief Guest, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the visiting delegation from India while addressing the gathering. He further stated in his speech:
“Sri Lanka and India have shared close and enduring relations for thousands of years, with India extending valuable assistance to us in numerous ways. Although the Northern Province was deeply affected by the three-decade-long conflict, it has now emerged as a peaceful and welcoming region. With the introduction of direct flights between Jaffna and Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, as well as the launch of a ferry service between Kankesanthurai and Nagapattinam, the number of Indian tourists visiting our province has increased significantly. We, too, continue to maintain a strong and brotherly relationship with India,” he said.
The tourism sector in the Northern Province is currently experiencing rapid growth. At the same time, under the strong leadership of His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, our country is engaged in a determined effort to combat drug abuse. We are committed to eradicating the drug menace entirely from our society.

Equally important is the health and well-being of our people. Our ancestors led healthy lives by consuming traditional, nutritious foods. However, there has been a growing shift among children towards fast food, and this trend must be reversed. We must refocus on wholesome traditional diets and healthier lifestyles. In this regard, this bicycle tour—promoting a healthy lifestyle, strong community values, and international cooperation—serves as an excellent example of how to inspire our youth and contribute positively to society.
“In order to promote tourism, several sites in the Northern Province associated with the Ramayana pilgrimage have been identified and documented in publications. It is widely believed that footprints of Hanuman can be found on islands such as Neduntheevu. We encourage you to visit these culturally and historically significant locations, share your experiences with your relatives and friends across India, and inspire more visitors to explore the Northern Province in the future,” he said.

The tour, conducted under the themes “Let’s Put an End to Drugs” and “Bicycles for Health,” brought together around 40 participants from five Indian states—Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Karnataka. The group was felicitated by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, the Chairman of the Tourism Bureau, the Director of the Bureau, and its members. Notably, the visiting team also extended their support to the community by donating essential learning materials to schoolchildren in Nainativu.

இலங்கைக்கும் இந்தியாவுக்கும் இடையிலான நீண்டகால நட்புறவை மேலும் வலுப்படுத்தும் வகையிலும், வடக்கு மாகாணத்தின் சுற்றுலாத்துறையை விரிவுபடுத்தும் நோக்கிலும் இந்தியாவிலிருந்து வருகை தந்த 'டீம் பைசன்' (Team Bison) துவிச்சக்கரவண்டிப் பயண அணியினருக்கான கௌரவிப்பு நிகழ்வு, வடக்கு மாகாண சுற்றுலாப் பணியகத்தின் தலைவர் கலாநிதி ஜே.விவேகானந்தன் தலைமையில் யாழ்ப்பாணம் வலம்புரி ஹோட்டலில்  04.04.2026 சனிக்கிழமை இரவு சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது.

இந்நிகழ்வில் பிரதம விருந்தினராகக் கலந்துகொண்டு உரையாற்றிய வடக்கு மாகாண கௌரவ ஆளுநர் நா.வேதநாயகன் அவர்கள், இந்தியாவிலிருந்து வருகை தந்த குழுவினருக்குத் தனது மனமார்ந்த நன்றிகளைத் தெரிவித்துக்கொண்டார். அவர் தனதுரையில் மேலும் குறிப்பிடுகையில்:

ஆயிரக்கணக்கான வருடங்களாக இலங்கைக்கும் இந்தியாவுக்கும் இடையில் மிகச் சிறந்ததும் நெருக்கமானதுமான உறவு காணப்படுவதுடன், இந்தியா எமக்குத் தொடர்ந்தும் பல வழிகளில் உதவிகளை வழங்கி வருகின்றது. மூன்று தசாப்த காலக் கொடிய போரால் வடக்கு மாகாணம் கடுமையாகப் பாதிக்கபட்டிருந்தாலும், தற்போது இங்கு மிகவும் அமைதியான சூழல் நிலவுகின்றது. யாழ்ப்பாணத்துக்கும் சென்னை மற்றும் திருச்சி ஆகிய நகரங்களுக்கும் இடையிலான நேரடி விமான சேவை, காங்கேசன்துறைக்கும் நாகபட்டினத்துக்கும் இடையிலான கப்பல் சேவை என்பன ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டதன் பின்னர், இந்தியச் சுற்றுலாவிகளின் வருகை எமது மாகாணத்தில் கணிசமாக அதிகரித்துள்ளது. நாமும் ஒரு சகோதரனைப் போல இந்தியாவுடன் மிகச் சிறந்த உறவைப் பேணி வருகின்றோம்.

வடக்கு மாகாணத்தில் தற்போது சுற்றுலாத்துறை வேகமான வளர்ச்சியைக் கண்டு வருகின்றது. அதேநேரம், மாண்புமிகு ஜனாதிபதி அநுரகுமார திஸாநாயக்க அவர்களின் உறுதியான தலைமையின் கீழ், போதைப்பொருள் பாவனைக்கு எதிரான மிகப்பெரியதொரு போராட்டத்தை எமது நாடு தற்போது முன்னெடுத்து வருகின்றது. போதைப்பொருளை எமது நாட்டிலிருந்து முற்றாக ஒழிப்பதற்கு நாம் தீவிரமாகச் செயற்பட்டு வருகின்றோம்.

'போதைப்பொருளுக்கு முற்றுப்புள்ளி வைப்போம்' மற்றும் 'ஆரோக்கியத்துக்காகத் துவிச்சக்கரவண்டி' ஆகிய உயரிய தொனிப்பொருள்களை முன்னிறுத்தி மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட இந்தப் பயணத்தில், இந்தியாவின் தமிழ்நாடு, கேரளா, மகாராஷ;டிரா, ஹரியானா மற்றும் கர்நாடகா ஆகிய 5 மாநிலங்களைச் சேர்ந்த சுமார் 40 பேர் பங்கேற்றிருந்தனர். இவர்களுக்கான கௌரவத்தை வடக்கு மாகாண கௌரவ ஆளுநர், சுற்றுலாப் பணியகத் தலைவர், பணியகத்தின் பணிப்பாளர் மற்றும் உறுப்பினர்கள் இணைந்து வழங்கி வைத்தனர். அத்துடன், இந்தக் குழுவினர் நயினாதீவில் உள்ள பாடசாலை மாணவர்களுக்குத் தேவையான கற்றல் உதவிப் பொருட்களையும் வழங்கி வைத்தமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
