What is Happening

'Thiruvempavai' religious festival

Thiruvempavai is a part of Thiruvasagam and was composed by Manikkavasagar in the temple town of Thiruvannamalai during the month of 'Margazhi' (December-January). The girls all wake up early, wake each other up and with song and dance go to the ponds and streams for bathing and then worship 'Pavai' (woman goddess). These songs are sung by them during the festival on 10 days preceding the 'Thiruvadhirai'. Special early morning Poojai is performed in almost all the Hindu temples in the Northern Province during these ten days.
