Northern Province offers several kinds of attractions which include holy religious places, spiritual observances, historical sites, pristine beaches, bird sanctuaries, heritage sites, colourful festivals for visiting tourists to make their travel a memorable one. The Province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the West, Palk Strait to the North West, the Bay of Bengal to the North, Eastern, North central and North Western provinces to the South. The coastal belt of Northern Province provides golden sandy beaches and turquoise blue water sea which attracts more tourists to this part of the Country.
Revady beach located at Valvettithurai area is a famous beach specially among domestic tourists. But there were no basic facilities and services provided to visiting tourists. Chief Minister’s Ministry of Northern Provincial Council proposed a development plan under the Provincial Specific Development Grant during the year 2016.
As a result, important basic facilities such as Construction of washrooms, dress changing rooms, resting huts, beach benches, providing pure drinking water and Solar street lights have been established at Revady beach. Rs. 2.73 Million spent for this development work.
Hon. Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council Justice C.V.Wigneswaran participated at an event held on 05th February 2017 and handed over the site for usage. Mr.S.Prashath, Secretary to the Valvettithurai Urban Council chaired the event. Hon. Members of Northern Provincial Council M.K.Sivajilingam, B.Kajatheepan and Vinthan Kanagaratnam also participated at this event. Secretary to the Chief Minister’s Ministry Mrs.V.Ketheeswaran, Commissioner to the Department of Local Government Mr.P.Kuganathan, Assistant Commissioner of Local Government – Jaffna Mr.N.Thirulinganathan, Senior Superintendent of Police for Kankesanthurai division and higher officials from Chief Minister’s Ministry also participated at this inaugural ceremony.
