It was established in Vavuniya in 1970 from the collection of archaeological evidence found in Vavuniya and its suburbs. This museum displays fifth to eighth century antiques, statues of Buddha, statues of Hindu gods, ancient pottery, terracotta figures, and various other ancient heritage symbols. The museum is open from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm and closed on Tuesday and on public holidays. It is located on the A9 route from Anuradhapura to Jaffna about 500 meters from Vavuniya clock tower. It is in the Vavuniya DS Division.
