The Sivan temple of Valvettithurai is situated to the South of the Valvettithurai Sri MuthumaraiAmman temple abutting the Valvettithurai Kankesanturai Road on the land called “Rasinthan Kaladdy”. The “Lingam” (The image of lord Siva representing the mundane realities of life) of Lord Siva titled “Panalingam” which was brought from Benares (Kasi) in North India together with the idols of Lord Nadarajar and Lord Santhirasegar were duly installed and the Kumbhishekam (consecration) ceremony had taken place on 8.6.1883.
Recently on 7.5.2003 the Balasthapanam ceremony and enshrining of the deities were conducted and the Kumbhishekam ceremony for Lord Vaitheeswarar and other deities was held on 4.2.2004. The annual high festivals of this temple are held in the Hindu month of panguni (March/April). Some of the important festivals are the ‘Oodal festival”, “wedding (re-enactment) festival” and the Theertham (Water cutting ceremony) held at the Oorani seafront in Valvettiturai.
