Sri Selvasannathy Murugan Kovil

This temple is situated at the side of the Thondaimanaru lagoon in the village of Thondaimanaru in Vadamaradchy North division in the Jaffna district. The chief deity of the temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The Vel is placed in the Moolasthanam or sanctum sanctorum. The annual high festivals which last for fifteen days terminate on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Aavani.

The poojas of this temple are held in accordance with distinct saivistic norms, devoid of the Veda or Agamic precepts. There are a number of Madams (Inns) adjacent to this temple which provide free rice meals specifically to the poor and orphans. Hence God Murugan enshrined in this temple is addressed as “Annathaana Kanthan “, the god by whose grace charity is practiced lavishly.
