Doric Fort at Arippu - It is also called Allirani fort. This fort has two bastions and was built by the Portuguese. In 1658, the Dutch took over the fort from the Portuguese. When Frederic North became the first Governor of Sri Lanka, it was his bungalow, and the pearl fishery was supervised from this bungalow. Therefore it is also called Doric Bungalow. There is a belief that the marriage of prince Arujunan with queen Alli took place here. It is also a belief that there was a tunnel under the sea connecting Rameswaram to this place.
