‘Chiththirai Puththandu’ celebrations held in a grand scale

In order to mark Tamil and Sinhala New Year, several traditional games and traditional performances held on 16th April 2025 at J/Ramanathan Ladies’ College, Maruthanarmadam. Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs, Department of Cultural Affairs, Department of Sports and Northern Province Tourism Bureau have jointly organized this event.

In the early morning, road race for local people - male (11.2 km) and local people – female, domestic and foreign tourists (5.2 km) conducted. Then traditional folk performances and traditional games were held. In the evening, the prizes were distributed to the winners of each event.

Hon. Governor of Northern Province Mr.N.Vethanayahan has participated the event as the Chief Guest. Chief Secretary Mr.L.Ilaangovan, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs Mr.Patrick Diranjan, Chairman of the Northern Province Tourism Bureau Mr.A.Pathinathan, Provincial Director of Education Mr.Bratley Janert, Director of Tourism Bureau Mr.G.Lokanathan, Director of Cultural Affairs Mrs.N.Laghini, Director of Sports Mr.B.Muhunthan have participated as special guests.
