Lord Krishna or Vishnu is recognized as the responsible god for the protection of the universal as the Hindus believed. Since the god Vishnu is being venerated a part of the Hinduism there are many Vishnu temples globally where the population are mostly Hindus. The Vannai Vengadesa Varatharaja Perumal Kovil is one of the important temples in northern Sri Lanka which is also known as Ealaththu Thirupathy.
It was built in 1665 and the first grand festival was celebrated in 1978.It’s located about one Kilo Meter away from Jaffna bus station. The annual grand festival with Chariot festival, water cutting ceremony and Garland festival is celebrated in the month of September known Puraddathi in Tamil.
There are several special festival such as Monthly Egathasi (11th day from full moon day), Ramar Paddapisekam (the day when Rama got eligibility to rule the country), Special Garland festival in Month of April and special flowers worships in each Saturday of the month of September which is connecting with the Saturn planet (Sani Bahavan) are held in this temple.
